2005 NFL Draft

It's that time of year again, where NFL teams prepare to make draft day decisions that will affect their franchises forever.  Since football is my forte, I thought I would give you a breakdown of who the top players are at each position.  After reading this article hopefully you will be better informed of who the top talent is in the draft.

Quarterback:
Alex Smith / Utah - 6-4 217 lbs Nice size, very athletic, coachable, used to being an underdog.  He has been very impressive in all his workouts for the scouts.

Aaron Rogers / Cal - 6-2 225 lbs Decent size, strong arm, mature for his age, great student of the game.

Jason Campbell / Auburn - 6-5 230 lbs Big QB, excellent leader, poised in the pocket, accurate passer, effective under pressure.

Running Back:
Ronnie Brown / Auburn - 6-0 233 lbs Great mixture of size and speed, tough, humble, can be effective running inside and out.

Carnell "Cadillac" Williams / Auburn - 5-11 217 lbs Excellent vision, great speed & instincts, remained starter throughout his career even with Ronnie Brown playing behind him.

Cedric Benson / Texas - 5-10 222 lbs Carried the load at Texas and put up huge numbers, also has size and speed, has strong legs that provide great balance and power

Wide Receiver:
Braylon Edwards / Michigan - 6-2 211 lbs One of the best all around receiver in the last two drafts, awesome size, speed, and ability.

Mike Williams / USC - 6-5 228 lbs Great size and strength, attacks the football and DB's with intensity and tenacity.

Tight End:
Heath Miller / Virginia - 6-5 256 lbs Great hands, good speed, best tight end in the draft hands down.

Offensive Line:
Alex Barron / Florida State - 6-7 320 lbs Massive talent, effective run blocker, excellent pass blocker, best lineman in the draft.

David Baas / Michigan - 6-4 319 lbs tough, nasty, hard nosed, great run blocker, can play guard or center.

Defensive Line:
Shawne Merriman / Maryland - 6-4 272 lbs Aggressive, explosive, intense, and quick off the edge with a 41" vertical leap.

David Pollack / Georgia - 6-2 265 lbs Non-Stop motor, great strength, has great instincts and ability.

Linebackers:
Derrick Johnson / Texas 6-3 242 lbs The best defensive player in the draft, awesome speed, strength, and ability, he also has great instincts.

Channing Crowder / Florida- 6-2 252 lbs He has sideline to sideline range, young and explosive, good strength and speed.

Defensive Backs:
Antrel Rolle / Miami 6-0 204 lbs The new age corner, size, speed, and not afraid to tackle

Carlos Rogers / Auburn 6-0 196 lbs Great cover corner, with excellent speed and instincts.

Thomas Davis / Georgia 6-1 230 lbs Nice size and strength, will remind you of Roy Williams, also a punishing hitter.

Saturday and Sunday's draft will be one of the deeper ones in years.  The talent at certain positions is not as good as it has been in the past, but the number of good players is way up.  Teams will be drafting quality players well into the 3rd and 4th rounds.  Get the popcorn ready it should be a good one.
