Thanksgiving
is always a time to reflect and give thanks for all the great things in
our lives. There is the usual thanks for health and family, and the
appreciation of friends and jobs. For ECU fans, there is plenty to be
thank for.
Pirates should be thankful for a football team that has played hard and
restored hope to a sinking ship. They should be thankful to the 19
seniors who have played their hearts out for three head coaches in five
years. They should be thankful for having watched eastern North
Carolina products Chris Moore and Richard Koonce play outstanding
football for struggling teams.
Pirate fans should be thankful for Terry Holland and his reorganization
of the athletics department. They should be thankful for Skip Holtz and
his football staff. They should be thankful for four wins and counting,
because as we have seen the last couple of years, there could be less.
Pirate fans should be thankful for Corey Rouse and the ECU basketball
team. They should be thankful they don't have to play Louisville,
Marquette, and Cincinnati any more. They should be thankful to the
Minges Maniac's who give the gym electricity.
Pirate fans should be thankful being part of a passionate fan base that
cares about their school. They should be thankful about the "chip" on
their shoulders that has driven the school to success. And they should
be thankful to be a part of beautiful Eastern North Carolina.
We all have tough times in our lives, but it's nice to recognize the
positive things, so enjoy ECU's last football game, and all the
upcoming basketball games. And have a Happy Thanksgiving, and don't be
afraid to go back for seconds, and thirds, and even fourths.
